Barcelona, Spain in 3 Days – Study Abroad Week #10

3 Days in Barcelona, Spain

Come read about how I spent 3 days in Barcelona, Spain as a college student studying abroad in Florence, Italy!

Getting to Barcelona, Spain

This week I decided to go visit one of my friends from SDSU in Barcelona, Spain!

Starting off with getting to Barcelona, I took the tram in Florence by myself for 2 Euro to get to the Florence Airport. Once at the Florence Airport I flew Vueling, which was a new airline for me, to Barcelona. I liked this airline, but it wasn’t my favorite budget airline that I flew when I was in Europe. I think my flight was about 2 hours long and wasn’t too bad. Once I landed in Barcelona I took the Aerobus to meet up with my friend. I believe the Aerobus was around 6 Euro.

Night 1 in Barcelona

Dinner and Drinks

Once I dropped my luggage off at her apartment we walked to the Sagrada Familia to see it at night before heading to dinner. For dinner we went to a Tapas Restaurant which was SOOO GOOD. I also tried Sangria. After dinner we decided to go for drinks at this really cool bar called, Orient Express Cocktail Bar. This bar was themed and felt more like a speakeasy to us. Once you get there you order your drinks based on a short quiz that you take and then your drinks are delivered to your seat by train. Even though the drinks were on the pricier side, it was definitely a fun experience and an alternative to the wild nightlife in Barcelona.

Day 2 in Barcelona

Arc de Tromf and Cascada Monumental

Day 2 started off with my friend giving me a tour of the city. We saw the Arc de Triomf and the nearby gardens before walking over to the Cascada Monumental. We took some pictures and grabbed coffee before heading to our next spot.

Platja de Barceloneta

Next we took a bus to Platja de Barceloneta where we walked around and enjoyed the ocean breeze. At this point we were getting hungry and I was craving tacos so we found a nearby taco place and it did not disappoint. I missed tacos so much and these were delicious.

After lunch we did some more site seeing and took the bus to the Port of Barcelona.

La Boqueria Market and La Rambla – The BEST Empanadas!!

Next we walked the streets of La Rambla and ended up at La Boqueria. I love La Boqueria. There are so many food and snack choices, it’s like a giant farmers market. It was so hard to decide what to get, but I opted for the Empanadas which might have been one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. We also saw people walking around with chocolate covered strawberries which are one of my favorites and so we got 2 cups of those as well. NOTE: Barcelona is for foodies!!

Around 4pm we started to get tired and went back to the apartment and took a siesta (nap).

We ended up napping for a bit longer than expected and woke up around dinner time. For dinner we got Paella by the Sagrada Familia.

Nightlife in Barcelona, Spain

After dinner we were determined to go out and party, as one does in Barcelona, so around 11:30pm we got ready and went to a bar before going out to the clubs. This night we decided to only go to one club, called Downtown. It was definitely a fun, but very late night. Barcelona clubbing is not for the weak.

Day 3 in Barcelona

Brunch at Billy Brunch

Day 2 consisted of sleeping in until noon before grabbing brunch with some friends at Billy Brunch. The food here was very much needed after our eventful night out. We shared a couple plates and chatted until around 3pm.

Beach Day

After brunch we felt a beach day was much needed and went back to the beach from the previous day. This beach was interesting. A lot of people try to come around and scam you/steal your things so beware. Another weird thing was that people were selling margaritas and head and face massages on the beach, which may have been illegal. Overall, I wasn’t a big fan of this beach.

Shopping

Post-beach day we did some shopping and grabbed burritos before heading back to change for the night.

Nightlife

Tonight consisted of pregaming from 1:30-2:30 which was wild in my opinion, before heading to the famous 5 floor club, Razzmatazz at 3AM!! This club was not my thing, but definitely an experience and some people really like it. We got home at 6am. The flight back to Florence at 9am was rough, but I got through it.

Overall, I liked Barcelona, Spain—but if I did it again, I’d swap a few late nights for more relaxing, exploring, and sunshine. Then again… you only live once, so maybe just do both and take a nap later lol.
