Split, Croatia in 3 days – Study Abroad Week #9

3 Days in Split, Croatia

Come read about how I spent my last part of spring break, part 3, in Split, Croatia. This is also a guide to spending 3 days in Split, Croatia. To read about the other two parts of my spring break see my two previous blog posts.

Bus to Split, Croatia

Preparing for Split, Croatia – The day before the trip

We started out Thursday by grabbing iced coffee which is hard to find in Florence at John Borno. Then we got Pino’s sandwiches which are not my favorite but many people come to Florence to try them. If you like fully packed flavorfully unique sandwiches then it’s worth a try. After grabbing iced coffees and paninos I dropped my best friend off at the tram station in Florence. TIP: The tram station in Florence takes you to the airport for only 2 euro.

This was such a fun week to be able to have my best friend fly out and visit me and we made memories I will never forget.

Friday – Day 1 in Split, Croatia

Bus Ride to Split, Croatia

Moving on to Split, Croatia!!! This trip was INCREDIBLE! One of my favorites from study abroad. I highly reccomend Split, Croatia, especially to young travelers.

I feel like this week was busy. My friends and I decided to book our trip to Split, Croatia through Bus2Alps, an all-inclusive, for the most part, student travel company in Florence. This type of travel is very convenient, affordable, and easy for college students who are studying abroad. I did 4 of my trips through them when I was abroad.

We took an overnight bus to Croatia, a lovely 10ish hours I think, which I will say is not for the weak. The bus was LONG. I would not do it again, but I think everyone should have to do it once in their life lol. I think we left Florence at 8 or 9pm. I was actually able to watch the SDSU vs. UCONN final march madness game on the bus which was super cool. We got to Croatia around 6 am which was rough… After sleeping for maybe 3 hours we were awake and ready for the day, not really lol, but luckily they had coffee. In Split, Croatia we stayed here at Koteks Enroute Hostel.

Day 1 in Split, Croatia

For breakfast they gave us pizza, eggs, and hot dogs, which was really weird but not the worst thing. Then we headed to a market near our hostel to grab snacks for the day.

Ziplining in Split, Croatia

Today we booked Ziplining!! This was a MUST DO activity for me. We hopped on a bus to the mountain before splitting into groups of 8-10 for a zip lining excursion adventure. We did 8 or 9 different ziplines and the guides were very helpful. The views are a MUST SEE! The company we did it with was Zipline Croatia but it was all booked through our Bus2alps package. Here is a similar ziplining excursion. The views were incredible. I would highly recommend this. We had so much fun and it was beautiful.

Then we grabbed food at Sexy Cow, a burrito burger restaurant, which was actually so good. Then we went down to the water and walked around before grabbing affogatos at a cafe.

Friday night we also signed up for a student bar crawl. We went to 5 or 6 different bars and ended at a club. We somehow went on the first day of the season which was lucky.

Saturday – Day 2

Beach Day in Split, Croatia

Saturday was a beach day. We woke up, had our hot dogs and coffee and headed to the beach. The closest beach to us was Kasjuni Beach in Split, Croatia. We had almost the entire beach to ourselves this time of year (end of March). Croatia doesn’t have the best public transportation so we ended up taking an Uber to the beach. The beaches in Croatia are rocky so definitely bring flipflops or water shoes to walk around in. After tanning and taking pictures I decided to be the brave one and go in the water. Let me tell you the Adriatic Sea is SALTY and COLD. The water however was super clear and I really enjoyed swimming by myself.

At this point in study abroad we were all CRAVING some form of Mexican food. We found a place in Croatia that had burritos and it was delicious. I don’t remember the name of it unfortunately. We spent the rest of the day walking around the downtown area admiring the architecture and grabbed Hungarian Chimney Cones which were DELICIOUS!!

Saturday night we ended the day with some bar hopping.

Sunday – Day 3 and bus back to Florence

Krka National Park

On Sunday we went to the Krka National Park. We took a bus here and did a short hike before seeing the waterfalls. The waterfalls are really cool to see and show you a different part of Croatia which was very pretty.

After seeing the falls we headed back on the bus to Florence.

This concludes my trip to Split, Croatia!
